Team Building for companies
Sailing and the business and working world have many things in common. Apart from sharing certain vocabulary (refloating, reaching a good port, sinking, captaining,…), in both activities it is essential to work as a team and to be very clear about who the leader-captain is, allowing oneself to be guided by him, and not discussing his decisions at critical moments. But we are aware, however, that it is impossible to “reach a good port” without great teamwork and without each of the “crew members” being clear about their responsibilities and carrying them out with the maximum conviction and efficiency they are capable of. That is, everyone involved in each of the company’s activities must be convinced that if “the ship sinks”, they too will sink.
In both worlds (yachting and business) it is often essential to work hard to beat the opponent or even to survive. We should not be afraid of “storms” or “creaking” of the boat, but we should have a lot of respect for both situations. We can enjoy the fair winds, without forgetting the “watches”. And we must be wary of excessive calms, being prepared for what may happen at the most unexpected moment. For this reason, discipline, a cool head, good leadership of the commanders and the trust they have earned from the rest of the “crew” are fundamental. And all this requires training, involvement, companionship and trust in oneself and in one’s team.
After a long experience of more than 23 years in the worlds of corporate training and sailing, I decided that in view of the points of confluence that existed, it was time to take advantage of my background to bring to the business world, in various areas, the knowledge of the work that takes place in a sports boat: group work, conflict resolution effectively and in stressful situations, leadership, respect and recognition of the value of individual work. Team Building.
