Participation in regattas
We don't go out to win, we go out to have a good time
Participation in regattas
Would you like to experience the thrill of the cruising regatta competition, participate in the maneuvers, collaborate in the design of the tactics and strategy to follow? For the past two years, we have been participating in the Badalona Sailing Club’s Cruising Regatta League, with a team of six people. We don’t go out to win, we go out to have fun, to improve our technique and to add a dose of adventure to those boring Sundays.
Would you like to join us? Experience the thrill of competition and improve your sailing skills by participating in regattas!
I have been sailing since 1989, I have sailed alone and with very diverse crews, from people who had never been on a sailboat, to professionals from whom I have learned a lot.
I participated in several classic sailing regattas and I realized that a regatta is a great learning tool. It develops a number of skills that are not as necessary in cruising. That’s how the idea of forming a more or less stable regatta team was born.
For two years we have been participating regularly in the Cruising Regatta League organized by the Badalona Sailing Club (CVB) and in other occasional regattas such as the “Badalona2”, the “Equinocci” and some offshore regattas, such as “la Ruta de la Sal” or the “Ophiusa”.
We are not looking for individual protagonism, but to form a cohesive, involved and committed team, where we can all make decisions at any given moment about the tactics to follow and where we can all do everything. This differentiates us from most other teams, in which the person at the helm is always the same and the one who makes the band is always the same. In our case it is not like that; every day, in every race, at every buoy, we rotate positions, so that in every race, you will do everything. If we win or lose, it’s the team’s responsibility.
We do not go out to win, we go out to have fun and to improve our technique to get the most out of the sailboat and ourselves. We will learn to trim the sails, to practice tacking, to orient ourselves, to follow a fixed course according to the chosen tactic and in accordance with the criteria of the course set by the Organization, to set the headsails, like the Genaker or to establish strategies to gain passage preferences over other competitors. We will get to know ourselves better, we will get to know the boat and that will make us cohesive as a team. I would like to form a more or less stable team to get the most out of it, but I don’t intend to create obligations. When someone can’t attend, there will be other people who will attend sporadically.
No matter how fit you are, you just need to be federated (I will explain you how to do it) and be willing to be part of the “Chronos Team”.
