AlmarBCN
About us
Welcome to Almarbcn.com, a place where we make sailing not a luxury but available to everyone.
Our philosophy goes hand in hand with our love for the sea. We want to be respectful with it and with the whole environment, giving back all the joys and magical moments it has given us.
We are a sustainable company, we sail whenever we can. We use the engine only to enter and leave port; we prefer the silence of the sea to the speed of the propeller, the noise of the sails swollen by the wind to the noise of the canned horses. In our outings, which take place throughout the year, in addition to sharing the passion for the sea and sailing, synergies are created that make the group of regular sailors bigger every day and go beyond the simple business relationship.
From a simple 3-hour morning or evening outing to a whale watching or fishing trip. Participation in club or offshore regattas, full day or weekend trips. From sharing several days trips along the Catalan coast or the Balearic Islands, or the long awaited Escale to Sète and Sardinia.
During the trips, you will be able to participate in the sailing tasks or simply enjoy and relax. Meals on board, good conversations and music, comfortable silence, swimming in the open sea… all this and more on board Chronos, our beloved sailing yacht.
We hope to have you soon among us!
I speak to you as a passionate lover of the sea.
Since I obtained my yacht skipper’s license in 1989, my life has always been connected to the sea, sailing, and navigation—three fundamental elements for me.
I acquired and restored two classic wooden boats: “L’Absurd,” a 1964 Marconi sloop, and “Ana,” a 1952 motor sailer, measuring 28 and 31 feet, respectively. With them, I sailed along the Catalan coast, both alone and with companions.
I have participated in several offshore races, such as La Ruta de la Sal (Barcelona-Ibiza). I’ve also taken part in some club races, such as the Travesía de l’Equinocci, the Club de Vela Badalona league, or the Puig Classic Sailboat Regatta. Additionally, I volunteer at the Barcelona Maritime Museum (MMB) in their Floating Heritage section, where I am the skipper of one of their boats, the Drac (a 1964 Dragon-class boat).
In 2011, I founded AlmarBcn with various perspectives. First and foremost, I wanted to make sailing and yacht rentals accessible to everyone by creating the Barcelonautes Sailing Club. Later, I launched a section aimed at companies, with the idea of bringing business skills training (Team Building) from the classroom to the boat.
In 2015, I obtained the Yacht Captain’s license, and a year later, I met Miguel and his father, with whom I partnered, managing the vessel Amariha until a few months ago.
In 2019, I obtained the PPER (Professional Yacht Skipper License), along with other professional certifications and qualifications. This was the reason that ultimately led me to decide, in early 2020, together with my partner, Inma, and my son Ulisses, to acquire Chronos—the boat we have presented to you, and with which we invite you to join the outings detailed on the website.
As you can see, my passion is to sail through life and across the sea!
I, Inma, began to have a relationship with the sea when I met Alfons, three years ago. I love mountains and hiking, but I have discovered the sea, its silence has captivated me … I have learned to respect it, and to obey it, to know that is it who leads, we let ourselves be carried away, admiring it…
Travel has always been my passion and I was very lucky to be able to turn it into my modus vivendi. I know Tourism closely, and I am very critical of current tourism models, such as those that have destroyed my city, Barcelona. I believe in another kind of tourism, one that helps communities and people, but is respectful with the environment, traditions and cultures of each territory, I believe in sustainable tourism. And, what is more sustainable than being guided by the winds?
Graduate in Tourism since 1999 at the University of Girona. I studied this career to travel, to know places and meet people and I did it a lot, working as a tourist guide for several travel agencies, and traveling on my own around the world: me and my rucksack
When I felt that I need to stabilize my life, both, personal and professional, and stay still, I ended up in the hotel world, where I have been for 20 years. I became head of reception and hotel manager. I was in charge of the hotel management and organization, I coordinated the reception staff with the other departments staff, and I kept control of budgets, invoicing and credits, reservations and daily revenue, in addition of customer relations and conflict management and resolution. And all of these is the experience that I can provide, with love, to AlmarBcn.
What I like is to try to understand the world and acquire knowledge. I am currently studying Physics and I plan to stay involved in the world of science as much as possible. I don’t have many anecdotes or experiences to share that are of relevance in this small presentation, but I can say that I really enjoy the contact with nature, especially the water and the sea. I think it is necessary (or at least beneficial) for human beings, as for any animal, to be in constant contact with nature. I love those moments of silence surrounded only by water and with the occasional company of some animals… they are revitalizing moments.
If I have to highlight also a second thing I like about sailing, it is that part where you have to face adverse situations in a calm and rational way, in order to ensure the best result. The unpredictability of the water is one of the factors I enjoy the most, and one of the other benefits I attribute to sailing. Stoicism is a virtue that is acquired by facing situations that take you out of your comfort zone, and the more unpredictable an event is the more you can grow in this aspect.
Apart from that, I like music, I play the drums and I enjoy exercising (healthy mind in a healthy body, they say). I’m not a person who likes to talk too much about myself, so excuse me if this is a short introduction, and thank you for reading.
