…we have opened the registration for the “LA RUTA DE LA SAL” regatta.

4 or 5  days trip to participate in the famous regatta of La Ruta de la Sal, that  connects the port of Port Ginesta with the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Last year, cause the Coronavirus, was cancelled twice, in April and in October. This year we hope to enjoy it!

La Ruta de la Sal

It currently gathers more than 2000 sailboats, making it the regatta with the largest participation held in the Mediterranean Sea.

But what is the history of this regatta? Why its name?

In May 1846, due to the blockade imposed on Barcelona by the Carlist armies during “La Revolta dels Mariners”, there was a shortage of salt that endangered Barcelona.

A well-known Barcelona businessman had the original idea of summoning the most famous sailors of the moment and presenting them with a challenge: he would pay for the services of transporting salt from the Salinas Pitiüses to El Garraf (Barcelona) but according to the order of arrival. First to arrive would be paid in gold, but the last might not even be able to pay the sailors’ wages.

Thirteen boats appeared to the challenge. The first to arrive was the “Maltese Falcon“, a 32-meter Baltimore schooner. in length and skippered by the Greek Andreas Potrus.

In 1989 ANAM decided to remember this route, and created the regatta.

Ruta de la Sal

No experience is required, nor to be in a good physical shape, just to feel like having a good time and living a different experience at sea.
